Benjamin Franklin once said: “Lost time is never found again.” How true those words are for all of us … especially for entrepreneurs. We are constantly trying to save time, trying to find time, or trying to manage our time more effectively, to be as productive as possible. The sad truth is that for entrepreneurs there will never be enough time on a daily basis, no matter how hard we try. What we need is more time, but how do you get this in your business? That’s exactly what I am going to answer for you in this blog.
Priorities, Priorities, Priorities
That’s where we need to begin. Of course I am not saying that you do not know how to prioritise in your life and your business, but the truth is … there’s just too much for a business owner to try and juggle on their own. This is why it makes sense to determine who needs to do what. And as the business owner unfortunately, you cannot take it all on by yourself. So what next?
Make a List
There are crucial aspects that you are responsible for in your business. These are the tasks that only you can do. These are also the tasks that are going to grow the business and bring in the income your business needs on a monthly basis to function and succeed. Determine from this list which tasks are non-negotiable for you to manage, it could be things like:
- Growth strategy
- Strategy in general
- Client communication and relationships
- Networking
- Working on your service or product offering
- Self-development
And then on the other side of the list, determine which tasks are menial, time-draining and not income-producing.
These could be tasks like:
- All administration
- Invoicing
- Financial administration
- Calendar management
- Email inbox management
- Following up on action points
- Team coordination
- Basically, all things that take you away from the true core of your business
The Good News?
There is someone out there that can actually assist you with your administrative list above. Who is that? A Virtual Assistant. A Virtual Assistant works remotely from her own location and offers secretarial, administrative and like in my case – niche services to multiple clients at any given time. A Virtual Assistant is an expert in the field of administration, systems, processes and procedures and enjoys taking these kinds of tasks on for clients. The other bonus is that a Virtual Assistant is not an employee, but an independent contractor. Which means that you only pay for the dedicated work that gets done for you and you are not responsible for anything else, just as you would be with a full-time employee that is based in your office.
COVID19 made business owners aware that being responsible for employees is risky, costly and not always the best route to travel if you are looking to minimise the risk of your business during such uncertain times.
